The fastest growing hardwood in the planet

Paulownia is native to Southeast Asia but it is used throughout the world with a number of uses from construction to bio-fuel. Due to its speed of growth, Paulownia has become a more reliable hardwood, guaranteed to grow quickly and satisfy increasing demands around the world.

The Paulownia tree has deep roots, perfect for stability, making it strong and reliable and perfect for growing in areas of steep inclines where trees would not normally grow.

Due to its deep roots it also has a greater tolerance to wind, therefore allowing it to grow and flourish in areas where forests may have already failed.

The Paulownia trees are able to grow in areas that lack good quality soil and therefore perfect for reforestation and afforestation across the world; with its ease of growth, the Paulownia tree can quickly reforest an area.

Paulownia wood is knot free, which greatly reduces wastage and makes it a fantasitc choice for many timber buyers. Paulownia trees are disease resistant and have a high temperature resistance – making Paulownia wood almost bullet proof to the elements.

What else should I know prior to planting?

Paulownia can be planted for different purposes such as commercial forestry investment, property development landscaping, commercial biomass, reforestation, etc.

Although paulownia grows in many areas, it is important to establish the purpose of the plantation and the caring and management instructions that are dependable on your final goal/purpose. A sustainable paulownia forestry plantation which goal is to obtain fast and good quality timber requires different treatments, fertilizing, land preparation, tree spacing, amongst other things, than a paulownia plantation which is intended to obtain biomass.

Paulownia COT2 is a patented and developed interspecific hybrid paulownia clone of paulownia fortunei x paulownia elongata which has unique and outstanding growth characteristics, quality timber and strong weather resistance.

Although paulownia grows in many areas around the World NOT all paulownia is the same or suitable for every set of environmental conditions.

Our biological and agro science advisors have successfully produced and patented a trademark protected variety, 10 years in development, which by far outperforms any other paulownia variety that grows within our European weather and climate conditions.  Our patented hybrid paulownia clone is cultivated for excellent timber quality to enhance its value as a quality timber investment and paulownia plantation, hence the reason why we are developing a Quality Stamp, QWF, to differenciate the timber that our trees produce, following a guideline for an optimum and quality result.

The clones sell in different sizes depending on your requirements, needs, weather conditions and the time of the year when you are willing to plant.

Questions & Answers

Q: I read that a paulownia tree has to be cut after the first year?

A: If your goal is to obtain timber, cutting the tree after the first year is recommendable, but the tree should have a minimum diameter of 7-8cm before is cut. This process can be done after 1,5 years or even 2 years if the width of the tree has not reach this size. This is done to obtain a straight, cilinder and no-knots main stump of +5m.

Q: What is the difference between a 0.6 L and a 1.2 L. plantlet?

A: The size of the plant and its rooting system. The bigger the paulownia is, the stronger the rooting system is. Depending on your objective, area weather conditions, soil type and other factors, we would recommend one or the other.
